Although farmers in the districts benefitted much from the Uyyakondan canal, which took water from the Cauvery River and irrigated 32,742 acres of agricultural lands in Trichy and Thanjavur, indiscriminate dumping by the city residents has more or less turned the canal into a sewage carrier.
